The Most Inspiring Production and Sound Design Tool

Studio One  Version 3.2

PreSonus raises the bar again with Studio One 3.2, a new free update for Studio One 3. Version 3.2 builds on the advancements introduced in Studio One 3 by adding new dimensions to your mix environment along with professional tools and workflow enhancements demanded by the music production community.

Mix Engine  FX

One of our goals with Studio One is to provide you with the ability to craft a sound that’s uniquely yours. While Studio One has been recognized for its pristine mix engine, we recognize that “pristine” sometimes isn’t what’s called for in the heat of creativity. To achieve this goal, we’ve introduced Mix Engine FX. You can now replace Studio One's acclaimed 64-bit floating point mix engine using alternative algorithms that change the sonic characteristics of your music in ways never before possible in a DAW.

What's so revolutionary about Mix Engine FX?

Learn about the Console Shaper and future Mix Engine FX

A New Dimension for Your Mix

Mix Engine FX is a groundbreaking new plug-in paradigm that allows you to modify or replace Studio One’s mix engine on any bus, and even the mains. In contrast to conventional plug-ins that must be inserted independently on each channel or bus with limited or no interoperability, Mix Engine FX process every channel individually at the source and at the summing point, without using redundant resources. Best of all, separate Mix Engine FX can be used on separate busses, allowing for limitless possibilities.

True Grit

Console Shaper, the first Mix Engine FX plug-in, recreates analog mixer system topology and componentry through State Space Modeling. Console Shaper transforms Studio One’s 64-bit audio engine into an “analog” console with control over drive, noise, and true crosstalk across multiple channels. Console Shaper provides a compelling software alternative to expensive analog summing hardware while offering far more flexibility. And remember: separate busses can now use separate "Consoles," so you can add grit to the drums while keeping your vocals pristine... or really anything you can imagine.

Console emulation is just the beginning. PreSonus, Slate Digital, Softube, Acustica Audio, and other third-party developers will be releasing more Mix Engine FX in the coming months.

VCA Faders

Mixing your biggest multitrack projects just got easier with VCA Faders. Originally introduced on large-format analog mixing consoles, VCA Faders provide remote control of any number of channels from a single fader, complete with relative level control and automation. Imagine just one fader for vocals, one for drums, one for the rhythm section, and one for horns—VCA Faders are so simple, you could get a handle on your mix with just one hand.

Learn more about the magic of VCAs...

The Best of Both Worlds

While a VCA Fader  “remote-controls” other faders, those faders can still be controlled independently, allowing you to fine tune your mix. VCA Faders also may be linked with Studio One’s Folder Tracks, keeping everything in sync and organized, and Studio One can now automatically create automation tracks in the Arrangement view for every FX, Bus or VCA channel. You'll love using VCAs to record relative (trim) automation which accurately combines with the volume automation from your individual channels.  Once you’re happy with the results, the new "Merge volume automation" function merges the VCA and channel together automation with the channel automation and resets the VCA.

Even Faster Workflow

How do you take the fastest DAW around and make it even faster? Studio One’s multi-tasking Arrow Tool has always changed functions to meet the job at hand, but now it’s even smarter by transforming into the Range Tool when hovering in the upper part of events. In addition, the Arrow and Range Tools now provide alternative comping methods for ultra-fast layer editing and navigation–even with a large number of takes.

Melodyne...Not just for vocals anymore

Blazingly Fast

Studio One now has a function that makes precise micro-editing of volume automation a snap, new QuickZoom shortcuts, faster crossfade editing, expanded Tab-to-Transients navigation, and you can drag and drop Instrument parts to immediately bounce to audio. Plus you can stay in the zone while editing by having loop points follow your selections on-the-fly. Transport options are also now easily accessible including the new Play Start Marker, and double-clicking the Transport bar meters allows you to quickly adjust output FX.

Building on Studio One’s already blazing fast workflow, these improvements dramatically improve the entire editing experience, and simply need to be experienced to believe.

For Polyphonic Instruments + Tempo Tracks

Studio One Professional’s per-track Melodyne ARA integration and faster than realtime rendering has set the standard for the industry. Now with version 3.2, Studio One has been refreshed to include Melodyne 4 Essential, a huge update with a new “Universal” algorithm. No  longer  limited  to  just   vocals or solo instruments, Melodyne 4 Essential provides the power to transpose and quantize polyphonic, harmonic instruments. Plus, with vastly improved tempo detection, mapping, and extraction, you can extract a Studio One Tempo Track from any reference audio.

Tighter Studio Integration

Studio One 3.2 expands the tight hardware integration introduced with the Studio 192 Interface to more PreSonus hardware. StudioLive AI rack mixers and consoles can now use their onboard DSP to power low latency monitoring with Studio One’s hybrid FatChannel plug-in. StudioLive RM rack mixers now also offer remote preamp control and up to 64 channels of high-headroom, XMAX I/O right within Studio One. In addition, Studio One Remote now natively supports iPad, iPad Pro and Windows tablets including Surface and Surface Pro, providing more ways to free you from your desk while tracking and mixing.

Introduced   In Studio One Version 3

The next standard is here! Introducing Studio One 3. New version 3 builds on the blazingly fast workflow, unparalleled sound quality, and rock-solid stability that made Studio One the fastest growing DAW of all time. Truly innovative songwriting and arranging tools

Arranger Track

It has never been easier to work “pattern-style” in a timeline-based sequencer/DAW.

Studio One Professional’s new Arranger Track provides rapid and intuitive song rearranging, even with large projects.  Simply drag-and-drop song sections in the Arranger track or Track Inspector, and the entire arrangement updates instantly.

Learn more about Arrangement tool and why it’s for more than just arranging…

Powerful Arranging and Navigation

The Arranger Track appears at the top of the Studio One Song arrangement, and highlights and names each section right above the music events. Sections can be drawn into the track and are automatically named based on common song structure rules. Of course, name and color can then be changed on the fly. Events that overlap multiple sections don’t need to be cut in order to be re-arranged. Moving or copying Arranger sections automatically cut all events and parts. The Track Inspector for the Arranger track conveniently lists all sections in the song and can also be used for editing and arranging.

The Arranger Track provides not only a perfect way to build and experiment with your song structure, but also a birds eye view of your arrangement to help you quickly navigate even the largest projects. Click on different sections in the Track inspector, and your playback cursor and song page focus instantly jumps to the new section. Double click on a section in the Arranger Track and the section will zoom to the full width of the timeline.

Scratch Pads

Studio One 3 Professional introduces Scratch Pads to the Song page, a powerful, yet simple new workflow innovation that will change the way you create music. Scratch Pads provide the perfect way to keep your work intact while you experiment on new ideas. Scratch Pads also are ideal for creating alternate versions of songs, such as radio edits and remixes, and for capturing new inspirations that you wish to save for later development.

Learn how Scratch Pads work and how they keep things organized.

Freedom to Experiment

Click the “Scratch Pad” button to create a vertical split of the timeline with song arrangement on the left, Scratch Pad on the right. Each Scratch Pad is a parallel, yet independent timeline to your existing song.  All channels, effects, and instruments are shared, but the new Scratchpad timeline is your sandbox to freely experiment without jeopardizing the existing progress you’ve made on your song. Simply drag Arranger sections, an entire song, or any content from the browser or song into the scratch pad, experiment away, and drag it back when you’re done. You can also keep your alternate material in the Scratch Pad, and export directly from the Scratch Pad when you’re ready.

Each song can have unlimited Scratch Pads, and all their contents are automatically saved with the song.  Beyond being a great creative tool, Scratch Pads are awesome for keeping things organized, as you no longer need to create multiple alternate project files, or copy elements of a song to some space far down the timeline. Now you can save all versions of your project within one Studio One project file, and have all your assets in one place.

Browser 3.0

Our drag-and-drop browser has helped define Studio One’s ease of use. In version 3.0, getting the loops, effects, instruments, and presets you need is even faster with tag-based musical search. Speaking of loops—Studio One Professional includes nearly 10,000 audio loops, music loops, and one-shots to get your projects started and reinforce your arrangements.

Browse the browser: Learn about musical search, Cloud content, and more.

Learn about Studio One’s stunning new loop library.

Find Content By Style and Instrument, Not Filename

In the new Studio One Browser, improves navigation and visibility by consolidating all pages and tabs at the top of the screen to, but the real workflow innovation is the new “Musical” Keyword Search function. Imagine finding the loop you need by typing “Heavy Rock Acoustic Drums” into the new Loops tab, rather than wading through a list of thousands of files and trying to remember what each file is. Another option is to show a tag palette with all currently used tags and select the tags you want filter by. “Musical” Search lets you intuitively search for loops, and instrument and FX presets the way that you think, by associating musical terms (tags) such as Style, Instrument, and Character to content. All library content (included) that ships with Studio One 3 and all content purchased and downloaded from the PreSonus Marketplace comes pre-tagged ready to take advantage of this feature.

The new “Cloud” tab makes all online content locations conveniently accessible directly within Studio One: Exchange (free shared content from other Studio One users), SoundCloud (upload and download from your SoundCloud account), and the new PreSonus Shop, which offers direct access to a growing number of Studio One Add-ons available for purchase including loops, sounds, plug-ins and even new features that can be installed or unlocked. With PreSonus Shop access, Studio One Artist users will be able to purchase and unlock additional features as needed without having to upgrade to Professional.

First Class Professional Loop Content from Big Fish Audio, MVP Loops, Sample Magic

There’s nothing like having a robust assortment of sounds at your beck and call for those late night songwriting sessions.  The new Professional Loop Library for Studio One adds over 4,000 Audio Loops and One-Shot Samples for new Impact Drum Kits. That pushes the grand total that ships with Studio One Professional to nearly 10,000, making it quite possibly the largest loop and one shot collection ever provided by any DAW.  That could be overwhelming, but the new Browser with Musical Search makes it easy.

Extended FX Chains

Studio One 3 Professional introduces Extended FX Chains, a fast, powerful, and elegant way to add new dimensions to your sonic palette. With Extended FX Chains, you can route audio effects in serial, in parallel, by channel, or by frequency bands, all via drag-and-drop. Rediscover your plug-in collection as you transform any effect to multiband or to the most precise, narrow band. Combine different effects in new ways to explore uncharted territories.

Learn how easy it is to create new sounds.

Your Only Limit is Your Imagination

The Insert section of each console channel in Studio One Professional now has an “edit” button, which opens Macro Controls with access to the routing view of Extended FX Chains. Extended FX Chains can be any combination of serial or parallel effects. A new Splitter tool has been implemented that offers three ways to divides the audio path: normal (parallel with multiple splits), by channel (L+R), or by frequency. This allows for very precise and extremely creative audio processing solutions with up to 5 split points.

All editing is drag-and-drop. The inspector view on the left side shows a micro-view of the selected effect and provides access to the plug-in’s presets and essential parameters. Each plug-in used can also be accessed from its tab in the same window. Almost limitless possibilities can be created by using splits within splits!

Extended FX Chains work with included Studio One Native Effects, or any VST or AU audio effect plug in—you can also integrate external hardware like vintage analog compressors or tape delays as inserts using Studio One’s Pipeline plug-in, all with precise delay compensation.  And for convenience Studio One ships with numerous Extended FX Chain presets and you can also save your own to instantly recall your wildest creations.

Multi Instruments

Not long after creating Extended FX Chains, someone in the office asked the loaded question, “hey what would happen if we did this to instruments?”   What would happen?  Rich, addictive, multilayered sounds.  That’s what happened.

Multi Instrument, as the name implies, lets you stack multiple synths and Instruments (as layers or key splits) on a single Instrument Track and record, edit, and play them like a single instrument. This opens a huge new range of possibilities for creative production and sound design.

Stop duplicating Instrument Tracks and start using Multi Instruments.

A Better Way to Layer Sounds

Why duplicate Instrument tracks if they’re using identical note data?  In the old days…think 2014 and back, this was the only way to build layered instrument sounds: copy your “MIDI” track, assign it to a new instrument, and if you’re lucky (and your DAW supports it) place them all in one folder.  Multi Instruments puts this to rest, helps keeps you organized and gives you a faster way to build amazing sounds.

Get started by dragging an existing Multi Instrument preset or an empty Multi Instrument (if you want to start from scratch) from the browser into the Song timeline.  If you have an existing instrument track that you want to fatten or freshen up, simply drag a new Instrument from the Browser onto your track or in the instrument rack (mixer) – drag one existing instrument on top of another and they and it can be transformed into a Multi Instrument.

The Multi Instrument routing editor looks and works just like Extended FX Chains, and Studio One, VST, or AU instruments and Studio One Note FX can all be dragged in to build your sound. Each instrument has its own key range, so setting splits and layers is a breeze, simply drag a slider to the desired point above the virtual keyboard on each Multi Instrument. Note FX like Arpeggiator or Chorder can each control individual instruments, or multiple instruments can be controlled from the same Note FX by adding a splitter. You can also use the Input Filter Note FX to create velocity splits between instruments.

Each Multi Instrument has a automatic mix bus and all enclosed instruments are automatically routed to this bus. In the mixer, the individual instrument output channels are all accessible through a collapse/expand button. And for quick recall, even the most complex Multi Instrument can be saved as a convenient preset. The Multi Instrument preset also stores the entire mix, including volume, pan and any insert FX on the bus or any sub-channel.

Macro Controls

To facilitate editing the multidimensional sounds that are made possible by Studio One 3 Professional, each Console Channel and Multi Instrument has a Macro Panel with eight knobs and switches that can be assigned to the most critical instrument or effect parameters.   These Macro Controls in turn can be assigned to your favorite MIDI controller for hands-on fun with your sounds.

A tweakers delight.

And Great for Live Performance

With Macro Controls, multiple parameters can be assigned to the same control, with independent range/polarity/curve controls.  Additional XY vector pads can be assigned with individual parameters; they can collapse/expand and are most useful when using a multitouch enabled display.

Plus, each Extended FX Chain and Multi Instrument also gives you the ability to access and edit individual instrument and FX settings.  You can also collapse or expand Multi Instrument in the Console for individual control while mixing.

Powerful New Instruments and Effects

Mai Tai

Mai Tai, Studio One’s new polyphonic analog modeling synth, gives you the ability to create monster electro and bass sounds that cleanly cut through your mix like a scalpel, inflict punishment like a jagged rusty blade, or bludgeon listeners with bass that will leave them reeling for days.

Not unlike the effect you experience after a few drinks that share the same name, Mai Tai’s sounds can change character and produce drastic morphing changes and unique timbres. Its Multimode filter offers sounds ranging from vintage analog (a la Moog or Oberheim) to state-of-the-art "zero-delay filters" sounds only found in virtual instruments costing hundreds of dollars.  Mai Tai’s oscillators and LFOs have a free-run mode, like an analog synth. Get modular-synth-style operation for enormously complex sounds, through Mai Tai's 16-stage modulation matrix. And Mai Tai is guaranteed to sound amazing because it’s built on Studio One’s dynamic new synthesis engine.

Check out our Mai Tai ingredients.

  • 2 oscillators with sub-oscillator and 2 LFOs can operate in free-run mode, exactly like real analog synths
  • Noise generator
  • Multimode filter with five types from vintage analog (Moog and Oberheim style) to modern state-of-the-art “zero feedback” filters
  • Character module provides subtle or drastic sound changes, morphing-like effects and unique timbres.
  • “Quality” modes affect overall performance and sound by changing the resolution or fine-tuning of oscillators, filters, and character section
  • 3 envelope generators with scalable curve shapes
  • 16-stage modulation matrix allows for enormously complex sounds; almost like having a modular synth.
  • Built-in effects
  • Scalable CPU performance
  • Hundreds of presets, or mix your own
  • Mai Tai is also expandable, check out the Analog Model Machine add on.

Presence XT Sampler

Presence XT represents the evolution of the original Presence sample-player, which has transformed into a robust, full-featured sampler. Rather than thinking of this as Presence “+ 1,” think of this more like Presence on steroids. Your old presets and song files will load, and some of the controls are the same, but that’s where the similarities end.

Load any new Presence XT sound, and you will immediately hear the difference, thanks to an entirely new, first-class sample library; disk streaming for large samples; and Studio One’s dynamic new synthesis engine.

Start to play, and you’ll feel difference, too, because Presence XT is equipped with articulation key-switching and powerful scripting capabilities for nuanced, lifelike sounds. Thanks to a powerful scripting engine, many instruments have custom controls for unique sound parameters. Many Guitars and Basses have adjustable fret-noise; Acoustic Piano has custom controls for sustain pedal noise; all Hammond Organ presets come with drawbar controls and switchable percussion; and Strings and Brass presets feature legato scripts, to name a few examples.

Learn about Presence XT’s sample format and additional libraries.

Learn about Studio One Professional’s 14 GB sample library and extended sample-format support.

More Sounds are on the Way

Presence XT introduces a new generic multi-sample format for exchange with other hosts.

The Presence XT library can easily be expanded with more content available on the PreSonus Shop like the 5+ GB Studio Grand, the eBass collection and more.  Browse the Presence XT Expansion Libraries. And more sounds are on the way from leading developers.

Use Presence XT’s Sounds And Your Other Sampler’s Sounds Too

Studio One 3 Professional comes bundled with a brand-new 14 GB sampler instrument library covering the entire palette of acoustic and electric instruments (keyboards, basses, guitars, brass, woodwinds, strings, mallets and percussion).

Presence XT for Studio One 3 Professional not only reads any original Presence content, it also reads the most popular sampler formats (EXS, unprotected Kontakt, Giga, and SoundFont) with no conversion necessary—just locate your sampler library in the Studio One Browser and drag&drop presets into the arrangement.

Reinvented Synthesis and Instrument Engine

Studio One's reputation for flawless sound quality started with 64-bit audio processing and now extends to its instruments and the way they play sample content. Mai Tai and Presence XT are based on this new engine and feature the same great-sounding filters, effects, and powerful modulation matrix, with more instruments on the way.

Note FX

Studio One 3 adds Note FX, a new way to bring Instrument Tracks to life. Patched in a similar fashion to audio FX, Note FX process the instrument note data, rather than the audio output signal. Note FX introduced in Version 3 include: Arpeggiator, Chorder, Repeater, and Input Filter.

Learn how each Note FX will transform your sound.

Arpeggiator

Arpeggiator (Professional only) Probably the most requested of all Note FX Plug-ins in Studio One, Arpeggiator recreates the classic effect — but is actually much more. Besides typical direction and range controls, it also offers a pattern mode with individual velocity and gate time settings for up to 32 individual steps.

In Chord Mode, the notes of a chord are not arpeggiated but played through the pattern, creating cool rhythmic effects. In Manual mode, the notes are arpeggiated in the same order as they’re played on the input, creating step-sequencer like effects.

Repeater

Repeater (Professional only) can create anything from basic delay/echo effects to complex patterns and glissandi. Individual pitch offsets for each step in Pattern mode give this tool a unique twist. Like the Arpeggiator, the Repeater features a graphic display and graphic editing of complex patterns. Manual Pitch mode lets you create complex note sequences.

Chorder

Chorder (Professional only) creates automatic chords from single notes played on the input. Each note on the keyboard can have a different chord assigned to it. Creating presets is simple using the Learn and Copy functions. So presets can be anything from the same chord on every key to complex chords on each individual key. With Transpose, the chord pattern can be shifted to any key.

Input Filter

Input Filter replaces the input filter found in the Track Inspector for Instrument Tracks. It can be used to limit the key range and velocity range of instruments at the input.

Rotor Audio Effect

Rotor re-creates the classic sound of a Leslie cabinet. Besides typical motor controls (on/off; slow/fast), Rotor also offers a virtual tube preamp featuring controls for  drive and tone (Horn-Q), as well as mic positioning. Changing the rotor speed re-creates the authentic acceleration and braking effects.  This is the perfect plug-in to complement Presence XT’s new B3 sounds—or try it on guitar for a psychedelic effect.

Bitcrusher Audio Effect

By popular demand, we present Bitcrusher, a powerful low-fi plug-in. Bitcrusher combines overdrive, bit reduction, down-sampling, and clipping into a single, corrosively toxic tool.

Looks Good, Feels Good
